7 Ways to Increase Comfort and Cosiness in Your Home

The fast-paced and demanding work life that most people have has heightened the importance of having a home where they can be themselves and relax completely. Sadly, not everybody gets to go home to a comfortable and cosy home every day.

A lot of people say they often come home to clutter because they hardly have time to clean up. In fact, most would say, they are already quite knackered when they get home at the end of each work day. All they can manage usually is to ensure that the sink is clean after dinner, and that there are clean clothes to wear for the next day. Sad, but true.

Here’s the thing, a home that is a lovely retreat for your body and soul is not that difficult to create. Making a few changes to your routine, as well as your attitude, are really all it takes for your home to be a haven for physical and mental rest. What are these changes you need to make?

1. Set aside a date every season for a major decluttering spree.

William Morris said: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or beautiful.”

Follow this adage and declutter every season. Clutter is what typically makes homes quite overwhelming to be in. It is also among the things that prevent you from having the kind of life that can bring you joy.

So, set aside a day or two every season to get rid of every possession that is broken and serves no real purpose in your life. Also, put away the items that you do not currently need in storage. Visit your local storage facility and explore the different storage solutions you can avail of.

Once you declutter, it will be so much easier to see the potential of your home in being a completely restful place.

2. Clean and organise what’s left of everything.

An organised home is a stress-free home. When everything has a place and everything is in its place, you can do things more easily and quickly.

Additionally, there is beauty in organisation. Don’t you just love the look of clean items lined up or stacked properly? Who needs décor when the things you need and use already beautify your abode?

For a spotless and organised home – hire a deep cleaning service every now and then, and pick up cleaning tips to help you keep your house as tidy and presentable as possible.

Most importantly, make cleaning a habit. Clean here and there every chance you get. Doing this can make the task less daunting and more manageable.

3. Display items of beauty.

If you have been keeping lovely possessions in boxes, why not finally bring them out for your eyes to appreciate? Get more use out of the items that delight your eyes instead of keeping them.

However, make sure that you only use what you can manage to clean because dirt buildup on your pretty items will easily diminish their value.

4. Light candles at home.

The warm glow of candles instantly brings that touch of “hygge” (the Danish and Norwegian word for the feeling of cosiness and comfort associated with contentment). So, light a couple. Do not reserve them only for special occasions or power outages.

Anytime your home feels a little cold and empty, let the flickering glow of candles fill it.

5. Invest in luxurious home essentials.

Make your home purchases always about quality instead of quantity. You will find that the few high quality and classic items you have are sufficient in making your home a satisfying place to be.

More importantly, they can save you money because top grade products usually outlast their cheaper counterparts. Plus, they wear well over time, disposing of your need to purchase substitutes.

6. Only stock up on your favourite produce and other food ingredients.

A cosy home is not complete without a pantry that is stocked with ingredients that will allow you to easily make the dishes and beverages that you love.

You should not have any of those food items that just gather dust over time because, eventually, insects will find them. Pests in your home will certainly defeat your intention of making your dwelling a place of relaxation. So, only shop for those edibles that you know you’ll go through quickly.

7. Make your house smell nice all the time.

The scents people love are usually associated with anything clean or a fond memory. They serve as reminders that certain standards can bring happiness, inspiration, and satisfaction.

Make these scents ever present in your home by using aroma diffusers, potpourri and/or scented candles.

Have a Haven of a Home

A home that is restful can benefit your health and wellbeing.

It can make life more joyful and peaceful. You may find that you’re more grateful, too, because when the world outside is all crazy, you have a place to escape to.

Therefore, make these few efforts – they are all easy but they can have a massive positive effect on your quality of life.
